Hi there,
regarding Dedicated server code. We have signed a contract a server rental supplier in Europe and will be making an announcement this week to let you know the details of this affiliate partner. You should be able to rent dedicated servers for the game in time for European launch.
In addition to this we are addressing the need for a consumer version of the dedicated server code. At this time I cannot give you any more details but it is on the Dev team radar. I hope you understand that I cannot give you any more details until I have full confirmation and approval from our HQ in the US but please be assured that we are all aware that this is something we require.

HELLO ALL!
PLEASE help us troubleshoot your connection error by providing us with a _connectlog. Below are the following steps to generating a _connectlog that will show us what is going on. We are working to get a fix in the first update for all connection errors, but we need more information!!
Steps on generating a _connectlog:
1. Locate the Joint Operations shortcut on your desktop. If you do not have a shortcut, please go to the install directory (default: C:Program FilesNovaLogicJoint Operations Typhoon Rising) , right click on Jointops.exe and Create a Shortcut.
2. Right click on the shortcut, and select Properties.
3. At the end of the "Target" field, add a " /connectlog ".
Therefore, the line in the Target field should look like this:
"C:Program FilesNovaLogicJoint Operations Typhoon RisingJointops.exe" /connectlog
4. After making this change, Apply the changes and close the property box.
5. Double click the shortcut to launch the game, and try to connect to NovaWorld.
After receiving the error, you can close out of the game.
6. If you go to the following directory:
C:Program FilesNovaLogicJoint Operations Typhoon Rising
You will notice a file called _connectlog.txt . This will have the information we need in order to better understand the technical issue at hand.
PLEASE email it to support@novalogic.com and/or nova-admin@novaworld.com. This information is key in getting this issue resolved. There are numerous issues that can cause the J-023 error, from routers to oversized UDP packets.
Thank you!!!!!

Joint Operations does support game types like attack and defend, flagball and capture the flag.
Once the MED tool comes out consumers will be able to build and host any of their favorite game types. Some of these game types may also appear as the on-line content for Joint Operations expands in the upcoming months. We've simply chosen to concentrate on providing quality maps for the game types that work well with the features in Joint Operations.
For the time being, enjoy the maps that are included with the game and keep your eyes peeled for the upcoming release of the improved Joint Operations MED tool. |

Still no dedicated server for Joint Operations?
At least it looks that way. That we can say since the us version has been released - there will be no dedicated server for Joint Operations. Quite a disappointment. The more so as at the E3 I got the impression that my arguments for such a feature (better LAN support, a greater online-acceptance especially concerning clans), have been compelling.
What is the community supposed to do with a game which 150 people could enjoy together on a LAN - if only the technical requirements were fulfilled? To host just a server would take immense resources, which no ordinary clan will be able to afford. It's sad to observe how a game with such a great potential is handicapped from the beginning on just because due to non-existent initiative or mistaking foresight no dedicated server is provided.
With this letter we would like to ask NOVALogic to revise the present situation. We also reaffirm our hopes that our request will be considered, since not only a few clans or leagues would profit from that, but also the entire community as well as NOVALogic.

Graphic Card / Video Issues
Q: I’m having display/graphics problems with my ATI Radeon video card. How can I fix them?
A: At the time of writing, there are a number of known issues with the Radeon 8500, 9000, and 9200 cards. Most can be fixed by installing the latest Catalyst drivers from the ATI website, version 4.5 or newer. Some of these issues are scheduled to be fixed with the Catalyst 4.7 drivers, which will be released shortly after the Joint Operations initial retail release date. If this doesn’t help, setting shadows to “Off” in the Options menu might also fix these issues.
Q: I get a black screen when using my ATI Radeon 9800 video card. How can I fix this?
Answer: There is a known issue with the ATI Radeon 9800 where the use of full scene anti-aliasing cannot be used in conjunction with frame effects set to “high”. Either setting alone is acceptable but not together.
Q: How should I configure my video options?
Answer: The easiest way to configure your video settings in the options menu is to make use of the “Default” “Performance” and “Quality” selections on the options menu. These will configure your video settings to pre-arranged levels based on your system performance. The "Default" settings are the recommended settings that the game chooses after the initial video test, "Performance" settings are optimized for fast and fluid game play, and "Quality" settings sacrifice some performance for higher quality graphics.
You can use each of the individual settings to fine tune your performance levels to optimize game play. Keep in mind when changing settings that resolution, anti-aliasing, texture filtering and frame effects tend to affect performance most drastically than the other video settings. Should you have performance issues, these are the settings you should try lowering first.

Updating the Game
Q: How do I update Joint Operations?
Answer: In order to play in the multiplayer (LAN or NovaWorld) games of Joint Operations, a player should have the latest updated version of the game. One way to update is by going to the main title screen and pressing the “Update” button in the lower right side of the screen. Another way to update is to press the Start button on your desktop and navigate to the Update Game button in the Joint Operations Typhoon Rising folder.

Multiplayer FAQ’s
Q: How do I host a multiplayer game?
Answer: To host a game over a Local Area Network, simply click on the “LAN” button while in the main game menu. This will take you to a second menu where you can choose to join or host a LAN game by clicking on the appropriate button. After pressing the “Host Game” button, simply change any information like game name and password in the fields provided, choose a map or maps to play, and then hit the “Start Hosting” button. To choose a map, simply double click on the name of the map you want to add in the list of maps on the bottom left hand side of the screen or click once on the name and then press the Add (+) button. This will move the map you choose into a queue on the right hand side. You won’t be able to start hosting until you place a map in the queue.
To host a game on NovaWorld, you must click on the NovaWorld button in the main menu, then log into NovaWorld. Once you’re logged in, there will be a button on the left side of the screen to enter the host screen. Maps can be queued and host options changed in this screen just like in the LAN host screen.
Q: I am hosting a Joint Operations Typhoon Rising game on NovaWorld and people are able to see it in the game lobby, but when they attempt to join they get stuck at the “Enumerating Session” screen or receive an error message.
Answer: If you are hosting the game from behind a router and you have not set up port forwarding, your game will be visible in the NovaWorld game lobby but will be inaccessible. You will need to configure your router to forward all incoming traffic on UDP port 32768 to the internal IP address of the computer which will be hosting the game.
Q: How do I configure my router to play Joint Operations Typhoon Rising?
Answer: If you are simply going to join multiplayer games, you shouldn’t need to change your router settings. If you plan to host games on NovaWorld, however, you’ll need to assign your computer as a "DMZ" server (thus allowing other computers access to your server) or allow inbound services on UDP port 32768.
Here are example steps for configuring a Netgear ProSafe FR114P firewall/router: (If you require help configuring your router, please contact your router’s manufacturer.)
Start up Internet Explorer and type “http://192.168.0.1” in the address box, followed by your name and password (“admin” and “password” are the default.)
The router’s settings page should then be displayed. Click on the “Services” option on the left and then select the “Add custom service” option. Name the service “JOTR”, set the type to “UDP”, then set the start and finish port to 32768. Apply these settings and then click “Rules” on the left-hand side of your screen.
Under “Inbound services” select “Add” and choose “JOTR” from the list of services presented. Set “Allow always” as the action. Then put your computer’s IP address for the “Send to LAN server” field. WAN users should be set to “Any”. The “log” setting can be set as you see fit. If you want players to be able to see the ping time to your server from the game server list, you must check the “Respond to ping on Internet WAN port” option. Apply these settings and your firewall should be configured to allow you to host Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising.
Q: How do I place waypoints on the map in a multiplayer game?
Answer: The Commander’s Map allows players to place their own waypoints. The player can place these waypoints by going into the Commander’s Map (by pressing V,) clicking the flag icon, and clicking anywhere on the map. This will bring up a text box where the player can enter the description of what they are marking. The waypoints are then displayed as text on both the map and on the horizon in front of a player and anyone who has designated that player as their Commanding Officer.
Q: How can I punt another player?
Answer: If a player is being disruptive to the game and you do not want them to stay in the server, you can “punt” them. To do this, press V to bring up the Commander’s Map and go to the “Players” tab. Once there, find the name of the player you want to punt and press the checkbox next to their name in the “Punt” column. A player can only be punted if two-thirds (2/3) of the players vote to punt them and there must be a minimum of 6 players in the server. These numbers may be different depending on where you play, however, because the minimum number of players as well as the percentage required to punt can be changed as a server option.
Q: How do I switch teams in a game?
Answer: A player must be dead to switch teams. You can elect to kill yourself in game by pressing and holding “CTRL” and then pressing the “R” key. While in the “death screen” there will be a button for switching teams if this function is enabled by the host of the game. There will be a delay between when you switch teams and when you respawn, once again set by the host of the game.
Q: What is Spectator Mode and how can I use it?
Answer: A host of a multiplayer game has the option to allow spectators into a game. This allows players to observe the game as a neutral third team that is unable to interact with the in-game action. Spectators can not affect the game, complete objectives or score points. Also, none of the text chat typed by a spectator can be seen by either team. If a host has spectator mode enabled, there will be a checkbox that can be checked to enter the game as a spectator. The host may also require a password for spectators.
While in spectator mode, a player can switch from “Free Look” to “Chase Cam” by pressing the “CTRL” key and either the “,” or “.” keys together. Once in Chase Mode, a spectator can cycle through players by pressing the “CTRL” key and either the “N” or “M” keys together.

Using the Commander’s Screen
Q: How do I share waypoints I’ve made on the Commander’s Map with other teammates?
Answer: Creating waypoints on the map can help organize teammates for more complex strategies. Other teammates will not see the player’s waypoints, however, unless the player is their Commanding Officer. This means that a player must recruit the teammates before they will be able to see the waypoints.
Q: How do I recruit teammates?
Answer: In order to recruit other players onto your team, open the Commander’s Map (by pressing V) and go to the “Team” tab. Once there, you can invite another player to follow you by pressing the check box under “Recruit” next to their name. They will receive a message saying that you want to recruit them. Once they have agreed to follow you, your name will appear under their “CO” column.
Q: How do I join another player?
Answer: If you receive a message telling you that another player wants to recruit you, you can join them by going to the Commander’s Map (by pressing V.) Once there, switch to the “Team” tab and press the check box under “Join” next to the name of the player that invited you. You will know that they are now your Commanding Officer because their name will appear under your “CO” column.

Playing Co-OP
Q: I have been playing Co-Op missions but cannot find the objectives. Where are they located?
Answer: In Co-Op missions as in Training missions, the objectives appear as the game progresses. To see the list of active objectives, press the G key. There is also a full list of objectives which can be seen by pressing the I button. This list has all of the objectives for the mission so it will not change or be updated as you progress through the mission like the G list.

Communications
Q: How can I chat in different colors? What do the colors mean?
Answer: There are 4 different types of chat you will be able to see in Joint Operations: Typhoon Rising. The first is general chat. This can be opened by pressing the “T” key. All players will be able to see this chat and it will be shown as a light blue color. The second type of chat is team chat. This can be opened by pressing the “Y” key. All players on your current team (Joint Ops or Rebels) will be able to see this chat, but no one else and it will be shown in a green color. The third type of chat is vehicle chat. This chat can be opened only when on a vehicle by pressing the “U” key. Only other players who are in the same vehicle as you will be able to read vehicle chat and it will be shown as a cyan color. The final type of chat is squad chat. This can be opened by pressing and holding the “CTRL” key and then pressing “T”. Other players who are both on your team and in your NovaWorld squad will be able to read this chat and it will appear in a purple color.
Recent text messages can be viewed by pressing the “J” key.
Q: How can I stop receiving chat or audio messages from a particular player?
Answer: If you do not want to see the chat messages from a player, press V to go to the Commander’s Map and click on either the “Team” or the “Players” tab. Once there, look for the name of the player you do not want to receive messages from and press the check box next to their name under the “Chat” or “Audio” column. If the box does not have a check in it, you will no longer receive chat messages from them.

Terranova Productions Community MOD
For the Community by the Community
Terranova Productions will be sponsoring a new mod for Black Hawk Down/Team Sabre and eventually Joint Operations. Right now our main focus will be directed at DF:BHD/TS. However with the release of Joint Ops right around the corner we will definitely be heading that way.
We have put a lot of time into BHD and so has the rest of the community. With the release of the MOD Tools there are many people finding skills they never knew they had. Now anyone can create objects for BHD which has opened a door for all of us. In a few short months we have seen people create some impressive stuff. From conversions to a simple object, the community has been overflowing with creativity.
The problem we foresee is most of the small, one-person MODs will be over looked and it will be hard to get a large amount of people to recognize them. Someone that creates his or her first building or a small team of dedicated MODDERS deserves to have their hard work and dedication published no matter how great or small. Unfortunately this is not always the case within our community. If it isn’t large enough with tons of new enhancements, the MOD in most cases will be over looked and all the hard work people put into it will be lost.
We are hoping with a joint effort, the DF community along with Terranova can create a MOD the entire community will be involved in. There is a good bit of work involved in producing a public MOD. It could take months for a modder to get his or her MOD completed and packaged for public use. Terranova has the tools and know how to make these things a lot easier and more then willing to help the community out with these MODs. If everyone gets together as a team its guaranteed there work will be published and more then a few people will play it.
Terranova is inviting the public to submit any new models, skins or terrains for this project. Models from any historical period are welcomed. Within reason, pretty much anything will be accepted. Terrains, Foliage, Buildings, Vehicles and Decorations are going to be the main focus. This is not a weapons MOD although we will accept some weapons for this project it is not something we are going to put a lot of time into. We will be replacing the current weapons, but due to the fact the game will only allow a set number of weapon entries our hands are tied. So adding more weapons is not an option.
If a submitter wishes to become part of the Terranova crew this mod would be the best opportunity to prove they have what Terranova is looking for. To build a strong modding team that will have experience working together when Joint Ops and the Joint Ops tools are released. Our ultimate goal is to get a team of people together for future Terranova products when we decide to make our own game.
Terranova will provide a private Ventrilo or a Team Speak server and try to give as much support we can. Anyone that wants to get involved with this MOD is welcome to join the server. We are hoping the server will become a meeting place for modders to work together for a finer product and a place for us to learn and share knowledge.
This is a project for the entire community to get involved in so spread the word and lets make the best mod the Delta Force community has seen! |
